Day 101 (November 29, 2006) - Galveston | |||
|
Despite the forecast, we get up with the sun today so we go back to our original plan and prepare the bikes for a morning ride. We will be leaving the campground, and Galveston later in the afternoon. Mind you, it's the end of November and we are wearing shorts, and a sleeveless T-shirt. Last night, just for curiosity I checked the weather in Whitefish, Montana (by Glacier N.P); it's around 25 by day and 15 by night... We are biking back to where we came from yesterday, away from Galveston, towards Indian Beach, Jamaica Beach and Pointe West. It's totally flat and the pavement is smooth, it barely gets my heart pumping. We keep looking around and aside from a few cows and orderly rows of neat pastel-color houses along the beaches, there's just the ocean. On our way back, Petr notices an injured little snake on the shoulder, and I move it carefully into the grass with a twig, hoping that it will survive. Further on, we stop at a public beach and I see something that I cannot quite make out. It's a dead dolphin, clearly mouled by a shark, it has two big bites one on his head and one on his throat. It must have been here for a while since it's starting to rot and smell. Back to the campground, we have just enough time for lunch and a shower before we need to checkout. We leave Galveston early afternoon. Today we are leaving Texas as well, and somehow we won't miss it much. We are hoping to get to Lafayette, Louisiana for the night. |
